Grace, I'm not a weaver but you sure make that look easy. I've watched the Navajo women weave their rugs and always thought I wanted to try that someday.
I was sad to see you need to let go of your flock, but glad you got to keep a few for pets, we do love our pets so much, don't we. :) It's nice that your pets give you some wonderful fleece to spin, my ferret isn't as accomadating :P.
I finally warped for a pick up bookmark, but it did not go well. When I warp for pick up patterns, all I need to do is have the right number of threads of the right color - - no crosses, no order! The ends are cut and I just stick the right colors in the holes or slots as required.
This figure eight stuff with the cross and having the threads in the right order is making me completely crazy.
I live on a farm that has been in the Hatton family since 1859. My seven acres used to be home to Finnsheep, a rare breed from Finland. Only a few hundred are registered in the USA every year. Finnsheep are known for large litters of lambs and wool that has a very soft hand and high luster - - very popular with handspinners. I have been spinning the wool from my sheep since the mid-80's. I am no longer breeding Finnsheep, and gave the last of them away last summer.
I am in the process of learning what a tremendous thrill it is to put a spinning wheel back in condition to do what it was made for! I probably have a couple of wheels and winders for sale at any given time. Don’t hesitate to ask about them. Also please visit my etsy store http://finnsheep.etsy.com
